El inhalador Combivent contiene una suspensión microcristalina de bromuro de ipratropio y sulfato de albuterol en una dosis medida presurizada para administración oral.

El bromuro de ipratropio es un anticolinérgico que bloquea el efecto de la acetilcolina en las vías respiratorias y el paso nasal

El albuterol es un tipo de agonista beta 2, que estimula los receptores beta 2 de los músculos lisos que recubren las vías respiratorias y hacen que estos músculos se relajen y abran las vías respiratorias para actuar como broncodilatadores.

Who Should Not Take Combivent Inhaler?

  • You should not take Combivent if you are allergic to its ingredients
  • You should not take it if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, seizures, diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease or any urination problems
  • You should not take it if you are pregnant or planning to become
  • You should not take it if you are nursing mother

What Are The Drug Interactions Of Combivent Inhaler?

  • Diuretics
  • Blood pressure or heart medicines such as Atenolol, metoprolol, propranolol
  • Parkinson's diseases or depression medicines
  • Urinary or bladder medicines such as Darifenacin, tolterodine, solifenacin
  • Medicines used to treat stomach acid, stomach ulcer, irritable bowel syndrome
  • Other bronchodilators like formoterol, terbutaline, metaproterenol
  • Cold or allergy medicines

How You Should Store Combivent Inhaler?

  • It is advisable to store Combivent inhaler at room temperature away from heat or open flame and moisture.
  • Avoid freezing.

How You Should Take Combivent Inhaler?

  • Insert cartridge into metered dose inhaler and prime unit before initial use.
  • Then actuate the inhaler towards ground until cloud is visible.
  • Repeat the process for three times.
  • Unit is then primed and ready to use.
  • It is recommended one inhalation four times a day and you may take additional inhalation according to requirement but do not increase six inhalations in 24 hours.
  • Shake inhaler well before inhalation for at least 10 seconds.

What Should Be Done In Case Of Doses If-?

Missed Dose- Take it as soon as you remember but do not double the dose

Over Dose- Seek emergency medical in case of overdose as it may cause chest pain, muscle weakness, severe headache, fainting, and slow breathing

What Would Be The Side Effects Of Taking Combivent Inhaler?

  • Choking, difficult breathing, mild headache
  • Chest pain, high blood pressure
  • Swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat and ankles of feet
  • Pain in eyes and seeing halos around lights, nervousness
  • Difficult and painful urination
  • Symptoms of cold such as sneezing, cough, stuffy nose or sore throat

What Precautions Should Be Taken While Getting Combivent Inhaler?

  • Take medical help if Combivent gets in your eyes
  • Take a record of inhalations number you use
  • Take care in case if you are cardiac patient
  • Take care in patients with narrow angle glaucoma as ipratropium may increase intraocular pressure
  • Combivent inhaler may cause dizziness, so take care not to drive or do any activity which requires alertness
  • It is advised for patients to actuate the inhaler if not used for more than 3 days once it is prepared for use.
  • And if it is not used for more than 21 days then patients are advised to actuate the inhaler until cloud is visible.
